The core loop alternates investigation and confrontation. By day, Noa and Aaron search Amsterdam for clues that reveal an Original's identity; by night, the identified target reveals its demonic form and Noa fights using spells, potions, artifacts, and the knowledge gathered earlier.
Investigate Amsterdam by day
Steam describes a handcrafted Amsterdam where building facades and gablestones can conceal the truth. Panache's day-night feature says Originals live among ordinary citizens with names, addresses, and habits. The investigation goal is to assemble enough clues to discover the name used to sign the target's contract.
Use two characters differently
Noa carries Zaindaris tools and witchcraft. Her Heperon absorbs Nux, while the Nuxifer records the Collector's journey. Aaron sees the city from a cat's body: he can reach places and perceive things Noa cannot. Steam explicitly describes switching between Noa and Aaron as two different playstyles rather than treating the cat as a cosmetic companion.
Magic has public consequences
Noa can use magic in daylight, but the militia actively hunts people suspected of witchcraft. That makes visibility and timing part of the decision: a fast magical solution may expose Noa, while Aaron or a quieter route may preserve her cover. Steam says targets can be approached in multiple ways and that strategy, timing, and choice shape the result.
Fight the Original at the Esbat
Night is when an Original can be confronted in its true form. Noa enters with what the day's investigation uncovered and uses spells, potions, the sacred branch, and the Heperon before sealing reclaimed Nux in the Nuxifer. Panache says each Original is a different fight, so the investigation is preparation rather than a detached side activity.
What Early Access impressions add
PC Gamer's launch impressions found cat exploration and infiltration intuitive, but described early fights and some infiltration solutions as repetitive. Its earlier preview reported dodge-and-brawl combat in the opening, later ability choices with roguelite resets, and a bugged boss encounter. Those are attributed experiences from specific builds, not permanent specifications.
